After graduating from College, I was successful in obtaining a Fednor internship as the program coordinator for the Young Entrepreneurs of Thunder Bay. I enjoyed working with this dynamic group of business owners.
As the coordinator of the YETB, I was able to bring the first youth focused awards ceremony to Thunder Bay. My responsibilities included promoting the event, coordinating the nomination/judging process and mc'ing the awards.
In addition to coordinating the YETB, I was also responsible for managing the local CYBF office. Through this role, I was able to coordinate a youth business loan process with a loan approval committee. I enjoyed working with the following businesses in this process: Pita Pit, Calico Coffeehouse, The Loop Clothing and Underground Ink.
While working full-time as the coordinator at YETB, I created a marketing company with a colleague. It was definitely a busy time in my life, but I enjoyed working with several clients on their marketing strategies. Ultimately, I decided that, although I enjoyed the work, I couldn't leave my position at the Innovation Centre.
Here is a picture of the Manitouwadge Bizkids Program. I have been very proud of the program I created, and was thrilled to expand the summer program to Atikokan, Schreiber, Kenora, and Manitouwadge.
This event is an example of an initiative that I developed, and coordinated while in the position of Director of Communications at NOIC. Because we are a non-profit, and run a lean centre, I was responsible for the graphic design, media relations, idea submission, judging coordination and logistics of the event.
I have been working at the Innovation Centre on and off for over 15 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed the work, and have been loyal to the organization. I felt the most inspired when I was working to promote and fuel youth entrepreneurship in our region.
Just an example of the monthly events I coordinated for the Centre in order to build the relationship between our clients and our staff.
Recently, I am putting myself out of my comfort zone in order to increase my knowledge base. I have just successfully completed the Workplace Innovation program at Royal Roads University. I am currently taking an online Fundraising Course focusing on building Donor relationships.
Throughout the past sixteen years, I have been blessed with a variety of work experiences that have enriched my life. These experiences have allowed me to increase my network, develop new skills and diversify my knowledge base. I greatly enjoy meeting new people and forming strong relationships for business development.
